wintery white

it's been snowing here for the past few days now making the world looks so beautiful and soft. during the first snowy day i took a bunch of pictures of winter out in the snow. i took these in the courtyard at my apartment building...believe it or not, it was the first time i ever went into it since moving in 4.5 years ago! :X you can't tell from looking, but the snow was a good 6" deep and still falling in little flakes in these pictures...even so, i couldn't resist the opportunity for these pictures.

sneaking in on the back of a full moon

forgot to add this here on saturday...but there's a new and very unexpected addition to my dolls! i went to a meet-up saturday and someone was selling a couple of puki sleeping faces. i bought one of them thinking that it was a flora. i've no clue why, but i looked it over closely and everything...dunno if it was the lighting or my mind or some kind of puki spell or what, but i swear it looked like a flora. needless to say, i bought it because i want to mod one to dreaming for reese. so hours pass and i finally get around to unpacking after the meet and, lo and behold, it's not flora! XD instead i now have documented proof that pukis are viral and have a way of sneaking into our houses unexpectedly!!!

so now i have a sleepy piki who will be taking a turn under the knife instead and will become a dreaming piki. i still have no clue who he is aside from having discovered that his name is chester - chess for short.

i did a photoshoot on thanksgiving with idyllwylde up at the park and am just getting around to editing and posting photos today. yeah...still have to edit photos from yesterday's meet-up, too. maybe i'll post a few of those here as well. i wish it had snowed some more than it did so i could take the girls out for a wintery photo shoot, but alas, it did not. kinda hoping it snows enough that they shut down the city this week or that there's enough around this next weekend (which there may be as they are saying right now that there's supposed to be more snow...but this is the pnw...so we'll see...stupid weather never being predictable...).

a sleepy weekend

so this weekend has been a lazy one, but, sadly, has been ticking past too fast for my liking. i spent most of yesterday doing...something...somehow it was eaten up by finishing crocheting a hat and making a jacket and boots out of felt. probably didn't help that i was on doa a ton and watched something like 6 movies or so. *shrug*

anyways...there's a meet being planned for up north a little in december. i'd love to go, but i need to find out when and where first due to the whole bus thing. hopefully things work out and i can go since it's going to be more of a swap meet/trunk show type thing. i've been trying to figure out making bags this week with felt, so i'd like to maybe have a bunch of different types/sizes made up by then to see what kind of interest there'd be in them. dunno. we'll see.

happy riot

the people have spoken: congrats to barack obama on becoming the president elect!

i was a little disappointed when everything was over by 8pm pst. it just felt like it was far too fast an ending to such a long and drawn out presidential race - and i'm talking from the first candidate announcing their intent to the dnc and rnc and to tonight. but then...then there was the happy riot. or riots. they're happening all over the country. i didn't know that there was one a block from me until all the helicopters showed up and didn't go away. then i just had to go out and take pictures. so i did. and it was fun. and there were TONS of people. and spontaneous chants. the star spangled banner was sung. flags and posters and stickers. sparklers. fireworks. confetti. the smell of weed. cops. old. young. gay. straight. men. women. transvestites. homeless. entitled. yes we can! beer. champagne. oh say can you see. christian. jew. shiite. punk. princess. palin. riot. happy. joy. music. neighbors. friends. community. patriotism. country. unity. history.

yay for halloween costumes!

zero to outrage in 4.3 words

so i just saw a thread on doa about the new dollmore limited edition lawrence (nsfw is how i'll label this as a warning). frankly, i'm astounded. from the op on, most of the posts i managed to get through are flat out outrage or statements of offense. really...i think i'm more offended by the posts than by the pictures they're referring to! in fact, i'm not offended by the pictures. they label him as a film noir themed doll, he has a bloody bullet hole in the center of his forehead, and he has sewn up lips. however, none of that is what they are offended about. no no, they're offended by the pictures and what they depict around him.

why do the posts offend me more than doll bodies that are supposedly all female and supposedly depicting dead bodies? because it went from "i'm offended" to "OMG RAPE AND TORTURE AND VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!!!!" there was one person in what i read before closing the thread in disgust that pointed out the fact that there could be a cultural difference and one or two others who pointed out that kids now days are exposed to worse in media at a younger age. all of them got shut out and basically told that they are wrong. one person posed the question to everyone: what if it was a female doll with male bodies? she was pretty much, imo, screamed at by the person who started the thread.

don't get me wrong, the overly offended people have good points about women who have been abused seeing the pictures and what their reactions might be, or that it might be disturbing for younger children (if they understand). but i don't like how everyone jumped to rape and torture. i mean, what about him being a vengeful spirit? or the fact that it's film noir based? have they even watched any true film noir? it's not like this is super explicit with blood everywhere or anything super gory. in all honesty, there's dolls and depictions on doa - a 13 and over site - that i think are much gorier or explicit than these pictures.

it's not like this is ero guro. hell, quite a few commercials on tv for movies depict more graphic violence and kids see those. whatever. i suppose i'm a cold and heartless person for not seeing the pictures as graphic depictions of sexual and physical violence towards women. i suppose i'm horrible because i see them more as a form of art in keeping with the theme they decided on for the doll. *eye roll*

yes i can! :D soooo happy that luts finally posted a tracking number for my package. no more worrying that they're going to take until next week to ship everything out. what does this mean? it means shoes! glorious shoes! mauahahahahahahhaahahahahhaha! *dies* X(

why izz his head so big?

so i was at urban outfitters tonight looking around to see what christmas stuff they might have up so far that works as stuff for dolls and (mostly) to see what new blind boxes are out. well...new hello kitty (nothing i'd really die without) and dunny 5. there's a junko mizuno dunny this time. *dies* i need!!! ToT there's also plenty of random stuff that's doll sized. i ended up picking up 2 minnetonka moccasin keychains that looked like they'd fit my delf girl body. they're a little snug, but i may be able to fix it by taking out the loop for the keychain. had to stand there looking stupid too as i went through all the boxes trying to find two of nearly the same size and color. i found one that's roughly sized for a mnf...didn't get though as i was looking for the sd sized ones.

they also have chuck taylor style keychains. they annoy me though. i'd love to get a set...but they're all left shoes!!! why is it that shoes are always made solely in lefts??? how? every time i find shoes, they're usually left shoes. where do all the right shoes go? why can't they make right shoes? it'd be great to be able to get a set. or even if they made them foot neutral i could get a set. *sigh* just makes me sad. i don't wanna have to try and mod a shoe to right. especially since it wouldn't look to grand. :| blah!

also, got another package in yesterday. contents: another wig and shoes! royal blue pumps for winter and a pretty monique gold wig for idyllwylde. :) now...just to wait for paypal to complete my pending transaction and for luts to have everything packed and sent out! i'm really hoping that the 15-20 day marked items are actually in stock and everything is sent out right away...

so i did a photoshoot of winter yesterday. i haven't decided what photos to put up just yet...this shot is one i put up to show off the jacket i found for her this weekend. plus she has a new wig! and she's wearing horns...i need to finish them up...all i've done is put the magnets in them...anyway! picture!

boxed!

so i'm in the annual gallery ok box show again this year. it opens this thursday (oct 2) at the angle gallery in the tk building down in pioneer square. i'm excited about it. this year the gallery had to scramble for a space for the show after having the rug pulled out from under it at it's old digs at the ok hotel, but the day has been saved with a great space in a building dedicated to art. there's gonna be a lot of people, which will hopefully generate great exposure for the gallery as it transitions into a holding pattern before being installed into a new location after the new year.

anyway...come show your support if you can! :)

i need to redo one of reese's faceplates and i want to redo all of idyllwylde's face except for her lips. *sigh* the parts i messed up on when doing idyllwylde are bugging me...and i think i want to give her a little less blush...blah...i have to finish my art project for the show next week first...blah! *hides under a rock*

so i took idyllwylde to one of the nearby parks for a stroll on saturday. we viewed the koi, met some curious people, were serenaded by a nice old man, and watched the sunset. oh, and i took lots of pictures! :) enjoy!

borrowed bits of bliss

so i got a fairyland nanuri 08 head. there was a little bit of a saga to her arrival...she arrived before i thought she was going to, so i missed picking her up from the building managers on the evening of the 21st after she arrived. then they were out all day friday, plus saturday is their usual day off. i had hoped to have her and be able to give her a face up before the meet on the 23rd, but it wasn't to be. i was finally able to pick her up on sunday and have had her on persephone's body pretty much ever since as i did a comparison shoot for my fellow nanu 08 fans at doa. i finally gave her a face up today (well...yesterday technically...) and am head over heels despite my horrid abilities. currently she has no lower lashes or eyebrows since i can't do either without it being a mess. i need to order some upper eyelashes for her, too. and a wig. and maybe eyes. and definitely a body. *sigh* so much to do. :|

last quarter brings the arrival of a dream

so i've wanted a juri '06 since they came out and, a few weeks ago, i was presented with the chance to adopt a beautiful girl from the marketplace on doa. she arrived home on the 28th and has captured my heart. i was a little worried before she arrived because i was questioning if i really loved the sculpt enough to enjoy having her. yeah, glad it was only 2nd thought nerves! :D

funny thing...i'd missed getting one that would have had a body that was made at the same time as the head and would have matched, plus it was blank and there would have been a lishe head as well (with faceup). and just earlier the very evening that my juri went up for sale, i'd been seriously debating getting a head with a custom faceup for a few hundred. but i just couldn't bring myself to do so. then she pops up. she was up about an hour by the time that i saw her. i debated all of a few minutes, was totally squealing over her, and status didn't help at all...that jerk. ;P

full moons bring new things

so, i guess i should start this blog out properly! thursday morning i received a package that i've been eagerly awaiting. said package contained a gift to myself that i've been planing for the past year. after a 40 day wait for the company to complete everything, i got a shipping notice and, 3 days later, i held it in my hands.
